View Full Version : Rude Pre-Sales Personnel
To the management of HFW, I hope you can make some review to this guy and ask him if he still want to have job. Or maybe he just want to enjoy walking on the streets like the BUM.
I believed that there is a polite way of answering my questions since I'm a potential customer. I was previously attended by a nice guy name Luc T. who is very polite and knowledgeable and not like this guy name Darin who obviously lazy.

eh! what's this character on about? Good one Darin, patiently contained.
As reported the "rude" bits are in the other court so maybe she is in to the asian poppies or summink.

As far as I can see Darin answered all the Q's. However there is one small mistake...It is stated that there are no testimonials but there is a testimonials (http://hostforweb.net/reviews.html) page that dates back to 2002...it is only linked to from the home page so is not part of the standard navigation, possibly this gets overlooked.
The HFW site could use an 'About Us' specially since HFW does have a great success story to tell and seems to have big plans for the future.
Actually the HFW site could use an 'extreme makeover', however I am happy that the efforts are concentrated on tech rather than 'bling'. Whats the use of being only a pretty face if the insides are all messed up...we all know that relationships last longger if based on whats inside. :D
Too philosophical for monday morning...must drink more coffee before I babble on.

Are you part of the management? I don't think so, I think your just nothing who's trying to comment and belongs to the people who can't comprehend. A big "L" for you pal! :-)

I, too, felt intimidated at first when my first live support session started with him/her, but I learned just to keep conversations short and to the point.

To be honest, The best way to get that info is to research google and forums like webhostingtalk etc. Alot of sites post fake info on there own site. He should have searched google himself then posted a link tho.

I'm having trouble with the 1-800 phone number, usually being too low to hear, and I rather just type my questions anyway.
How exactly do I access the Hostforweb Live Support system?

Greetings, just go to www.hostforweb.com and click on livehelp button you see at the top. That's it!
To add my 2 cents (as usual) I have been to lots of other companies glitzy web sites. I have seen one that offers 3 TB (not a typo) of transfer and 5 GB of space for ~$7 fancy, fancy web site. Anybody in the real world realize how stupid that offer is...I offered to sign up for an account if they would co-lo a dedicated box and just give me the 3 TB of bandwidth for $7 ...they didn't take me up on it, shucks, if their servers can deliver that to 100s of customers they should be glad to get the load off their "super computers" with all those gigabit ports on them and let me just buy the bandwidth
WHT and some of those sites are OK but only to an extent, you can see how some hosts are "pumped up" on there. Most of the "host reviews" are owned by the top rated host or else the top ratings go the the highest bidder.
I think Darin may have misinterpreted the person & seemed rude without being intentionally rude, heck every human being does that sometimes except maybe the Dali Lama...and he thinks for five minutes before answering anything so he would be too slow for computer support
But the forums here are a good example of a good host. A good, diverse group of people who sometimes gripe but most often are happy and who spend their time helping others. Also I GREATLY prefer the service HFW offers over time/money spent on a glitzy web site.
I have watched them grow over the years I have been here and to me it makes sense. Instead of the hosts like that 3 TB offer who obviously are out to grow real fast, get lots of money, then bail out or whatever (because they can't deliver) HFW has grown steadily larger & larger in a sustainable fashion upgrading support staff as they add customers etc.
I been here so long I was here before they had the forums ;)
But if somebody can't figure out this is a good place to be...well you can't get every customer and HFW doesn't want EVERY customer (some are more trouble than they are worth) or they would be making those ridiculous offers like the "other guys" and instead of saying they use Equinix they would show pictures of a thousand servers in the racks there and claim it was their own datacenter (like a lot of those companies do...or ""Photoshop" the HFW name on the front of a big building... if you look enough you'll see several companies claiming to own the datacenter with the same photos :p )
I'm sure they'll ask Darin to be more polite, but I don't think he was really rude, he probably could have worded it better when telling the person to search around but nobody's perfect...not even the Grump Pack

I have been away from the forums awhile.
I have been here at HFW for almost 2 years & ALL the good out weighs the small amount of bad.
I felt Darin handled the conversation well. Seems as if he may have been prodded a bit. Almost like that person wanted to push his buttons.
HFW is awesome.
I wish they would fix the look of the forum though. :)

More of the same from Darin....
That's right, Darin still works for HostforWeb, and is still up to his antics. I opened a ticket with support about emails not being received on an ever increasing basis. After expressing that I was dissatisfied with the pace at which support was handling my request, Darin was kind enough to inform me that "I am not going to look through logs from days before". If I wasn't missing email from that past days worth of logs, it wasn't worth his time.
I informed Darin that if he wasn't willing to address my concerns I may have to go somewhere where they will. That received no response, a closed ticket, and circumstantially I haven't received ANY email since.....good, bad or otherwise.

I've been to a great many sites and used the live help links quite often. I don't find the live chat with Darin in any way rude. I have had really bad ones and that in no way compares. Just my 2 cents....

I didn't find anything wrong with the live chat either. He suggested Googling the info. What more can you do if you don't have any info? I think the person wanted everything spoon-fed to them, and honestly, when you are researching a company, should you really take the information THEY give you at face value? It's the information you find out about a company from other sources that tend to be more reliable and honest.
You can always ask me... if they can make me happy for all these years they should be able to take care of anybody...
Routine trouble ticket this morning with a dedicated, fixed in maybe 10 minutes...it doesn't get any better, and the ones that have taken several days to track down (not so routine) they stay after until it's done right...they know I may gripe a lot (charter Grump Pack Member) but I'm really a happy & loyal camper
